Who needs a laptop? – you already have a computer in your pocket

Whenever you are traveling with your laptop it is a hurdle; The laptop is not only heavy, it is also quite bulky. Especially when adding the charging cable and all the necessary adapters. You are probably thinking why is my laptop so large and heavy? Do I need such a beefy laptop for my tasks? And with today’s technology, could it not be lighter… or even smaller?
You are right: For most things we do, we don’t need a super fast processor or a funky graphics card – Your daily apps like Powerpoint, Excel, Word and so on also work on your tiny phone.

What is that little thing in your pocket capable of?
And can it go big?

It’s yesterday’s news that Smartphones are getting increasingly sophisticated by the day. More features, updates increased ram etc. Nowadays phones let us edit photos and presentations in no time. And even cutting videos is possible on the device itself.

However the tiny screen of your smartphone makes for a poor user experience and will probably accelerate your need for glasses. Some of you might argue that a tablet is the way to go. But let’s face it – a tablet is just a phone with a bigger screen and no phone functionality.

A lucky few have a desktop computer which fits in their pocket.
Do you?

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S8 or newer Galaxy device you have the Samsung DeX feature: Which enables your phone to turn into a PC – the only thing you have to do is to connect it to any monitor: Automatically a perfect desktop mode appears, just like the one you are used to from your computer.
The experience becomes complete when paired with a keyboard and a mouse. Now you are ready to do almost everything that was impossible on that tiny smartphone screen. Mails and letters can be typed super quickly on the keyboard and highly sophisticated solutions such as Photoshop Express can now be used without limitations.

With Samsung DeX you can work on a real screen but only need a tiny phone. Gone are the days where you have to carry a heavy backpack and just imagine how quick you would get through airport security.

The future is now

Samsung had that mobile-powered desktop vision early on and it is now paying off. More and more people are adapting to it and see it as a real alternative to their laptops. Samsung Dex demonstrates how we will interact with smartphones in the future. Furthermore, with the standardization of USB-C and Wireless options, dongles are no longer needed to activate this desktop computing experience.

It is mobile, but not Enterprise Truly mobile

There are countless examples when Samsung Dex could save the day. Lots of you now envision themself commuting with just a smartphone to work. But there is a catch: In a current enterprise environment this mobile vision does not work as you expect it. Because of your company’s IT setup you are still dependent on a computer workstation and the usability will not be as seamless.

Why? Let me explain:
Authenticate yourself

Security is key when working with sensitive data. Therefore you have to authenticate yourself whenever you want to get access to work related apps or companies web apps. Just think about how many times you open up apps per day and how long it takes to type in your username and password.

Still dependable

Whenever you have a problem with your password, you need to contact IT-support or find a windows desktop computer to fix it. This goes for expired passwords as well as password resets.

Limited user experience

Imagine needing to access a sensitive document file on the go. Most likely this data is saved on an on-premise server and not on the cloud. This matters because accessing and editing this data is limited because of your current infrastructure. To overcome this, the document will not be opened in the dedicated editor like Word, instead editing is only possible in non-standardized editors. Editing a file in an unknown editor can be frustrating and time consuming.

Buckle up for a truly mobile experience

We at Hypergate want to free every employee from these hurdles and complications. Therefore we developed two solutions which take care of that, so you have a seamless user experience: Hypergate Authenticator and Hypergate Files. These two lightweight solutions enable you to securely edit your work on your device. And with a Samsung Dex device you can even leave your laptop at home and get things done. We prepared a short video which illustrates exactly what is possible.

What made all of this possible?

Hypergate Authenticator

Hypergate Authentication – Utilizes the same IT infrastructure used on your PCs and makes them accessible on your mobile device. Closing the Kerberos Gap, Hypergate Authenticator will handle Self Service Password reset and SSO with no change to your current infrastructure. A simple plug and play solution.

Hypergate Files

Grants access to SMB Files shares the same way you would access them on your PC and with the same SSO. You can reinforce security with biometrics or even block content when employees are not in your 4 walls.
